My name is Alissa Kloet, and I'm thrilled to share my portfolio with you in response to your call for a freelance textile designer. As both a trained textile designer and a passionate home sewist, the idea of designing exclusive fabrics for Blackbird feels like a natural and exciting fit. It’s one I’ve actually dreamed of!

With a background in textile design from Sheridan College and a BFA from NSCAD University, I’ve been hand-printing my own fabric collections for home goods since 2012. This hands-on experience gives me a unique and practical perspective on fabric design. Not just in terms of aesthetics, but also in how a pattern translates through printing and into the final sewn garment. I understand how fabric behaves, how prints align, and how small details can elevate the sewing experience.

I deeply admire Blackbird's commitment to sustainability. Like you, I believe textiles should be high-quality, thoughtfully produced, and made to last. My own studio practice reflects this ethos, and I would be proud to contribute to a collection that encourages people to make, mend, and cherish their clothing.

Above all, I simply love sewing! Finding that perfect fabric, dreaming up a garment, and bringing it to life. I would be honored to bring that joy to others by designing fabrics that inspire creativity and confidence at the sewing machine.
